Why Doggie Daycare?!?

Last spring my husband and I adopted a 4 ½-month-old puppy from a local shelter.  Gus had been picked up as a stray so we didn't know much about him but it was clear from the moment he bounded out to greet us with kisses and wiggles that he was our dog.  He was already 45 pounds and full of energy.  We had wanted an active dog because we are an active family.  However, I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we signed the adoption papers and headed home.

The first few days were a whirlwind of running, jumping, and flying white and black fur.  He jumped on the counters.  He jumped on the kids.  He jumped on us…the furniture... and the kitchen table.  He even managed to jump over our couch without touching the seat cushions!  He also was constantly biting us and the kids, not in an aggressive way, but in an annoying, slobbery, irritating, and sometimes painful way.  Whenever the kids tried to run and play, he would herd them by biting their hands and feet.
Gus clearly had more energy than we had expected.  So we tried running him.  My husband took him for a 5-mile bike ride/run every morning, and I ran him 2 miles every night.  It didn't work.  We tried obedience classes.  He failed.  We tried a training collar.  He became scared and aggressive, growling at me and the kids on a few occasions.

Finally, we tried Doggie Daycare.  It was our last hope.

He LOVED it!  We noticed a difference in his behavior the very first day.  That night he came home, laid on the floor, and slept the entire night!  Until that day, we had never been able to wear him out.

He continues to go 1-2 times every week and he is a much calmer, happier, and more confident dog.  He has improved greatly in all areas, especially his socialization.  He rarely jumps or bites and he is learning to control his behavior.  He still gets excited and messes up occasionally, but he gets better every day.  Doggie Daycare has made a huge difference in all of our lives and I would highly recommend it to all dog owners and their furry friends!
